A man was knocked down and killed by a minibus taxi in central Johannesburg on Tuesday morning, Gauteng paramedics said.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, sustained serious head wounds.

His body was found in the left-hand lane of Durban Street around 06:00, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

The taxi was parked a short distance away.

Meiring said the taxi driver escaped injury.

Police were on the scene to investigate further.
