Johannesburg - A teenage boy has died after being crushed by a wall in Kagiso, police said on Friday.

The 17-year-old and his friend had just left the Kagiso Mall on Thursday afternoon when a strong wind came up, forcing them to take cover on the one side of a wall, said Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.

Tragedy struck when the wind blew the wall down.

"The wall allegedly collapsed and fell onto the two boys and the deceased was certified dead on the scene by the paramedics," Sibiya said.

His friend, who is also 17-year-old, was injured in the incident.

The youngster was injured on the lower leg and ankle.

Sibiya said the boy was still in hospital, but was in a stable condition.

An inquest docket into the incident had since been opened.
