Johannesburg – An 18-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, following the murder of a couple and their young son in their De Aar home, Northern Cape police said.

He was caught at his home in Sunrise, De Aar, following information from residents, Captain Olebogeng Tawana said.

He would appear in the De Aar Magistrate's Court soon on three murder charges.

The bodies of Glenwill Makaleni, 40, Gladys Makaleni, 38, and their son Gladwill Makaleni, 10, were found in their Caroluspoort Street, Montana, home on Saturday morning, Tawana said.

They were found in different rooms.

A family member contacted police when she found the house locked and the couple failed to answer their phones.

He said all three had been "stabbed cold-bloodedly".

"The deceased's home was locked from inside. The investigation team had to cut off the burglar bars to gain entrance into the family’s house," he said.

It was believed the killings took place in the early hours of Saturday morning. It had not yet been determined how the attacker got in.
