Durban - Durban’s Florida Road was brought to a standstill on Thursday morning as medics worked in vain to save the life of an 11-year-old girl who was hit by car.

The girl, from a school in the area, was crossing the road when she was hit by a car, and flung into a parked car, Life Response 24/7 spokesperson Leon Fourie said.

“We found the girl lying on the road in a pool of blood. She had sustained multiple traumatic injuries,” he said.

They started CPR to try and revive her.

“Advanced life support assistance was called in, but sadly there was nothing that we could do for her. After nearly half an hour of trying she was declared dead,” he said.

The car which struck the girl parked close to the scene while police officers took pictures and measurements.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said Berea police were investigating a case of culpable homicide. No arrests had yet been made.
