Pietermaritzburg - Prestbury residents say they have reached their limit as this weekend was the fourth consecutive one without water.

Some residents said they felt “victimised” as their area is “usually the first to not have water and the last to receive water”.

At a recent city executive committee meeting, Prestbury resident and DA councillor Judith Lawrence said the fact that some areas, especially Prestbury, were left without water over the weekends showed that “perhaps some people were using up all the water and not saving, as told to”.

Lawrence asked chairperson of the executive meeting Mayor Chris Ndlela if there was any way to measure if people were using less water. However, he did not answer her directly, but said instead that the situation is likely to worsen.

He said although Prestbury did not have water on the weekends, there were some communities without water for an entire week.

“We cannot politicise the situation. Nature has decided to reduce the water supply,” Ndlela said last week.
