Barberton – Three people burnt to death after two vehicles collided on the R38 in Barberton on Friday, paramedic services said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha on Saturday said paramedics responded to a collision between a BMW and a taxi.

Botha said paramedics arrived at the scene and found a taxi engulfed in flames with three people still trapped in the wreckage. A critically-injured patient was also still trapped in the BMW.

"After triaging the injured it was established that three people had burned to death, one person miraculously escaped with minor injuries while the driver of the BMW was in a critical condition."

Botha said the injured were taken to hospital for further care.
