Durban – Three people were seriously injured in two alleged illegal drag races in Durban, paramedics said on Friday.

On North Coast Road, two cars collided at high speed just after 22:00 on Thursday, Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said.

Bystanders helped both drivers get out before one of the cars caught fire.

“One man sustained serious injury in the collision and advanced life support care was needed to stabilise him on scene, before he was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital."

In the second incident early on Friday morning, two people sustained serious injuries on Inanda Road.

“Reports from the scene suggest the two vehicles were allegedly racing, when one of the drivers lost control at high speed, colliding with the other vehicle, causing it to veer off the roadway, colliding with a wall."

The two injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
