Durban - Three people were shot dead at a block of flats in Doonside, Amanzimtoti in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, paramedics said.

Two other people were wounded, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

He said the police called paramedics to the scene of the shooting.

“When paramedics arrived they found that five people had been involved in the incident. On assessment, paramedics discovered that a man and woman had sustained fatal injuries in the shooting.

"Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the patients and they were declared dead on scene,” he said.

“Three other patients were found on the scene, two of them critically injured. Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, they were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment,” Meiring added.

Meiring said that one of the injured men had died shortly afterwards.

He said what prompted the shooting is not yet known but that local authorities were on the scene for further investigation.
