Pretoria - Three men have been arrested at the Mooiplaas informal settlement for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The three were arrested on Monday by Erasmia police following a tip-off.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said, based on information received from the community, they were able to track them down.

"The police worked on the information and it led them to a shack in Mooiplaas. Upon searching the shack, police found a hand gun with the serial number filed off. The firearm will be taken to ballistics to check if it was involved in other criminal activities," he said.

Moloto added that a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened.

The trio, believed to be in their 30s, will appear before the Attridgeville Magistrate’s Court soon.
