Polokwane - Three men accused of kidnapping a woman earlier this year, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, the Hawks said.

Samuel Kubo, 38, Masilo Elias Gafane, 33, and Benny Madau, 34, face charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and hijacking. They would be back in court on August 8.

Anisah Moosa, 35, was blindfolded and forced into the back of a silver Audi A4 outside her uncle’s house in Nirvana, Polokwane in March, Captain Matimba Maluleke said.

An hour later, they allegedly phoned her uncle to demand a R3 million ransom.

Moosa was reportedly the victim of a syndicate of kidnappers preying on wealthy, mostly Indian and Pakistani families, in Limpopo.

“A meeting was arranged for her family to pay the ransom for Moosa’s relase. Undercover police officers travelled in the car with the family,” Maluleke said.

When the kidnappers suspected police were in the car, a shoot-out occurred, during which three officers were injured.

The kidnappers ran into the bushes and Moosa escaped. In the three days she was held captive, she could not sleep or eat.

The Limpopo Hawks launched a manhunt for the three men and they were arrested in May. They were released on bail of R10 000 each.
