Parents have been urged to ensure their little ones' safety this festive season, after a three-year-old girl drowned while swimming in a family pool in Durban.

On Friday, Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived at the house in Berea around 14:00, where they met the child's worried family members.

"Paramedics assessed the child but unfortunately, there were no signs of life and there was nothing that could be done for the little girl. She was declared deceased on scene," he said.

Jamieson added that the police were on scene to investigate further.

He cautioned parents to always remain vigilant when their children were around water.
