Thursday's weather: Rising temperatures, hot conditions for most of SA

Hot weather conditions are expected over most of the country while temperatures remain warm to hot along the coast on Thursday.

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the north-eastern interior of the Eastern Cape, according to information provided by the South African Weather Service.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

The weather in your region

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm, but hot in the north. The expected UVB sunburn index will be low.

It will be cloudy in Mpumalanga in the morning with fog patches along the escarpment. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot.

Limpopo will be cloudy in the morning with fog patches along the escarpment. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot.

It will be fine and warm to hot in the North West, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in the extreme west.

The Free State will be fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected, except in the north.

It will be cloudy in the west at first with morning fog patches along the coast of the Northern Cape. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in the north with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly.

It will be cloudy in parts of the Western Cape at first with morning fog patches along the west coast and adjacent interior. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, except in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly becoming strong from the afternoon, between Saldanha and Betty's Bay. the wind will be moderate to fresh south-easterly to easterly along the south coast. The expected UVB sunburn index will be extreme.

The Eastern Cape will be cloudy and cool in the south. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north, spreading to the south by the evening.

Morning fog is expected over the escarpment of KwaZulu-Natal. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the west and south. The wind along the coast will be moderate east to north-easterly, becoming south-easterly in the extreme north. The expected UVB sunburn index will be moderate.
