Thursday's weather: Severe thunderstorms over KZN and the Eastern Cape

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern and eastern parts of the Northern Cape and extreme western parts of the North West.

The South African Weather Service has issued a watch for severe thunderstorms over the extreme north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape as well as the extreme south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

A special weather advisory has been issued of extremely hot conditions in places over the western interior of the Eastern Cape.

The weather in your region

It will be partly cloudy and warm in Gauteng with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

In Mpumalanga it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-west.

Partly cloudy and warm conditions can be expected in Limpopo.

It will be partly cloudy and warm to hot in the North West, with isolated afternoon thundershowers.

Partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions with isolated afternoon thundershowers are predicted for the Free State.

It will be cloudy in the west of the Northern Cape with morning fog along the coast, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated thundershowers in the extreme east, becoming fine from the afternoon.

It will become cloudy along the coast in the evening.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming strong from the south in the evening.

In the Western Cape there will be morning fog patches along the coast, otherwise it will be partly cloudy to cloudy and warm, with isolated afternoon showers in the south-west, where it will be cool, spreading to the south coast and adjacent interior.

Isolated afternoon thundershowers are expected over the north-eastern parts.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly, becoming fresh to strong southerly from the south-west in the late morning, spreading to the entire coast line.

It will be partly cloudy with warm to hot conditions in the Eastern Cape with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south westerly.

In KwaZulu-Natal partly cloudy conditions and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers expected, except in the north-east. Scattered showers are expected in the extreme south.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming south-westerly south of Durban in the evening.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.
