Harrismith - A toddler was killed in a collision involving a bakkie and a truck on the N3 in Harrismith, Free State, paramedics said.

Fifteen others were injured in the crash which reportedly occurred after a truck rear-ended the bakkie, causing it to overturn on Friday evening, Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.

“When paramedics arrived on scene, they found that there was a total of ten adults and six children all between the ages of a year and seven years of age. While assessing the injured, a toddler who was found to be in a critical condition was resuscitated on scene but sadly there was nothing that could be done and the toddler was declared dead at the scene.”

The injured were treated and taken to various hospitals.

No one from the truck was injured.

Authorities are investigating.
