Johannesburg - A 3-year-old boy and a woman believed to be in her 60s were killed on Thursday evening when the car they were travelling rolled along the N11 south between Newcastle and Ladysmith, paramedics said.

ER24 spokeperson Chitra Bodasing said it was understood that the vehicle rolled after the driver lost control of it 25km outside of Newcastle.

The two deceased had been ejected out of the car during the accident. They died on the scene.

Three others, a man, a woman and a girl believed to be six-years-old sustained minor injuries and were treated on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital.

Two more occupants escaped unharmed, Bodasing said.
