Tomorrow's weather: A rainy Christmas is expected in places in the east of SA

Severe thundershowers are expected in places across three provinces in the east on Tuesday.

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the northern-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the interior of Mpumalanga and in places over southern Limpopo.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the interior of the Northern Cape, the Free State and the North West.

Heatwave conditions are expected over the Free State, the North West, places in the north and north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, and the north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal up to Thursday. Heatwave conditions will persist until Friday in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers.

In Mpumalanga, it will be cloudy in the east at first with morning fog patches over the escarpment. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated afternoon thunderstorms. It will be very hot over the Lowveld.

Limpopo will be cloudy in the east at first otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated afternoon thunderstorms, but scattered over the central and north-western parts.

It will be fine and very hot in the North West. It will become partly cloudy in the extreme east from late afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The Free State will be fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the extreme east from late afternoon. Isolated showers and thundershowers can be expected.

Morning fog patches are expected along the coast of the Northern Cape at first. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm, but hot in places over the central interior.

The Western Cape will be cloudy to partly cloudy at first over the eastern parts. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm but hot in places over the interior. It will remain partly cloudy along the coast by the afternoon and into the evening.

The Eastern Cape will be warm along the coast. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thunderstorms in the north east, but cloudy with drizzle along the Wild Coast and adjacent interior.

Morning fog is expected over the interior of KwaZulu-Natal. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, but very hot in places in the north. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected.
