Top performing schools in Western Cape named

Cape Town - A number of Western Cape schools have secured themselves bragging rights at the provincial department's awards ceremony for matric achievements obtained last year. The ceremony was held on Tuesday at Leeuwenhof, Premier Helen Zille's official residence.

Schools which got the nod in the various categories include:

- Oude Molen Technical School (best technical school)

- Walmer Secondary School (most improved pass rate at a public school - improved by 40.9%)

- Hoërskool Hexvallei (greatest increase in number of Bachelor passes - 43.7%)

- Settlers High School (best improvement in Maths passes)

- Paul Roos Gimnasium (highest number of Maths and Physical Science passes)

- Spine Road Secondary (best improvement in Physical Science; highest number of English Home Language passes)

- Proteus Sekondêre Skool (best improvement in Engineering Graphics and Design, as well as Civil Technology)

- Oval North Secondary School (highest number of passes in Engineering Graphics and Design)

- Bellville Technical High School (highest number of passes in Civil Technology)

- Bernadino Heights Sekondêre Skool (best improvement in Accounting passes)

- Elsiesrivier Sekondêre Skool (highest number of Accounting passes)

- Belgravia Secondary School (best improvement in English Home Language passes)

- Knysna Sekondêre Skool and Pacaltsdorp Sekondêre Skool (best improvement in Afrikaans Home Language passes)

- George Sekondêre Skool (highest number of Afrikaans Home Language passes)

- Manzomthombo Secondary School (best improvement isiXhosa Home Language passes)

- Bloekombos Secondary School (highest number of isiXhosa Home Language passes)

- Centre of Science and Technology and Hoërskool Parel Vallei (best improvement in Information Technology passes)

- Cape Academy for Mathematics, Science and Technology (highest number of IT passes)

- Groote Schuur High School (best improvement in Computer Applications Technology passes)

- Atlantis Sekondêre Skool (highest number of Computer Applications Technology passes)
