Pretoria – Traffic on the N1 was being redirected after part of the roof collapsed in the Steers restaurant at the Petroport Panorama, north of Pretoria, on Friday.

One worker and five customers sustained minor injuries in the restaurant, which is on a bridge over the highway,  Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.

Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said traffic from both directions was being diverted through the petrol stations next to the bridge until engineers had declared it safe.

Mathe said two of the injured refused treatment, while the other four were taken to local hospitals.

Total spokesperson Pansy Mekwa said the roof collapsed around 11:30. A representative from the service station accompanied the injured to hospital.

“Currently the restaurant has been closed off and structural engineers are on site and an investigation will begin. Total South Africa is providing all necessary support and assistance to the dealer of the service station Total Petroport Panorama. Total South Africa and its dealer deeply regret the accident and empathise with the injured and their families,” she said.
