Johannesburg – A pedestrian was crushed to death by a trailer, which is believed to have come lose from a waste removal truck on Witdeep Road in Germiston on Tuesday, paramedics said.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said paramedics had come across the incident at approximately 13:30.

He said upon arrival, local authorities led paramedics to the trailer.

"The trailer veered off the road and into the man who had been walking on the sidewalk," Meiring said.

"A man was found lying beneath a large waste removal trailer. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene," Meiring said.

The man is believed to have been in his 30s.

Meiring said local authorities will be launching an investigation into the matter.
