Port Elizabeth – The Democratic Alliance’s mayoral candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip, launched the party’s "register to vote" campaign on Monday.

The party put up hundreds of posters around Port Elizabeth on Monday to remind South Africans to register to vote during the first registration weekend in March.

Trollip said Nelson Mandela Bay residents had the opportunity to elect a government that delivered better services, cut corruption and created jobs.

"For too long, we have been at the mercy of rampant unemployment, corruption, unacceptable housing backlogs, dilapidated RDP homes, murderous gangsterism and drugs - all because the ANC government in NMB has given up on delivering a better future," he said in a statement.

Registering to vote was the first step in bringing about change, he said.
