Johannesburg – A truck driver was killed and a passenger injured in a collision on Khutsong Road, between Khutsong and Welverdiend, Carletonville on Wednesday.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found that a truck and car were involved in the collision.

"The truck had rolled and landed on its roof. The car was found close by. Both the driver of the truck and a passenger, both men believed to be in their 30s, were trapped.

"Sadly there was nothing that could be done for the driver. He sustained multiple severe injuries. He was declared dead."

Bodasing said the passenger sustained minor injuries. She added that the Jaws of Life had to be used to remove the passengers from the vehicle.

"The passenger was treated and transported to the Carletonville Hospital for further medical care. The occupants of the car, both women, were uninjured. The exact cause of the incident is unknown."

Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
