Cape Town - Several southbound lanes of Victoria Road in Salt River have been closed after a truck crashed into two parked cars and six moving vehicles on Tuesday.

It is thought that the driver of the truck lost control and collided into the vehicles near Salt River Road, City of Cape Town traffic services spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout said.

The accident took place shortly after midday.

A woman sustained serious injuries, while two children in the same vehicle - aged between 6 and 8 - were also hurt.

No other people were injured.

Bezuidenhout, who described the crash as "massive", advised motorists to use an alternative route.
