The uncle of the man, who was allegedly shot and killed by a Tshwane Metro Police officer in Pretoria, says the justice system failed his nephew. WATCH

Pretoria - A Tshwane metro police officer accused of shooting dead a motorist after a stop-and-search operation is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Constable Takatso Mashego, 26, is accused of killing department of telecommunications and postal services employee Tsakani Rikhotso Shimange, 38, in Hatfield around 09:00 on January 6.

Shimange, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, was shot in the chest shortly after Mashego stopped him near the Gautrain station, as he was on his way to work.

Mashego’s lawyer Peter Jay previously told the court that Shimange bumped his client with his car.

At his last appearance on January 13, Mashego was granted R5 000 bail.
