Tuks students embark on prayer walk

2016-02-25 08:17

Pretoria - Dozens of University of Pretoria students gathered at the Hatfield campus early on Thursday morning for a prayer walk, coming together for a third day in a row to call for unity.

This comes after a week of protests over the institution's language policy. The university remains closed due to the protests and violence.

On Wednesday students gathered for a prayer session and peaceful march around the campus, and on Tuesday morning students formed a human chain and prayed for peace and unity.

A social media campaign was also launched, urging students to “take a picture of themselves, with a person of another race, in grey-scale with a poster stating: #ColourBlind”.

Protests have spread to other university campuses, with buildings at North West University torched on Wednesday night following clashes with a private security company, and a rugby match descended into a massive brawl at the University of the Free State on Tuesday night.
