Two appear for NPA, court break-ins

Pretoria - Two men arrested in connection with break-ins at the Director of Public Prosecutions and Pretoria Magistrate's Court have appeared in court, the NPA said on Tuesday.

Moses Ernest Tonono Ntakiso, 39, and Moses Magolego, 40, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku said.

Ntakiso faces seven counts of housebreaking with intent to steal, theft, and one charge of escaping from lawful custody.

Magolego faces one count of housebreaking with intent to steal, and theft. The case was postponed to August 21.

Two prosecutors' laptops were stolen from the offices of the NPA in Pretoria during the early hours of Monday, July 10. Burglars broke into two offices on the second floor.

Two weeks later, chief prosecutor, Advocate Matric Luphondo's office in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court was broken into.

At the beginning of July, computers were stolen from the Hawks head office, the Promat Building, in Silverton, Pretoria. The burglars targeted the HR, finance and supply chain departments.

The Hawks said there were no signs of forced entry.

In March, 15 computers were stolen from the offices of the Chief Justice in Midrand. They were taken from the HR department and contained sensitive information about the country's judges.
