Two arrested following mob justice attack

Cape Town - Two suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with a mob justice incident which resulted in the death of a Dunoon man.

The duo was arrested during a joint operation in the early hours of Friday morning in Joe Slovo, Dunoon and Sumer Greens.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said in a statement the victim has not yet been identified.

“During the operation, two suspects were arrested for the murder which occurred on May 1 in Dunoon. According to information [the man] was assaulted by residents and later died in hospital due to his injuries,” she said.

Eight other people aged between 23 and 36 were arrested during the operation for drug possession, drunk driving, outstanding warrants of arrest and contravening the Immigration Act.

“A substantial amount of drugs were seized and fines valued at R46 500 were issued,” Rwexana said.
