Johannesburg - Two men were arrested after they were found in possession of a mortar bomb near the Carlton Centre in central Johannesburg, police said on Thursday.

Police on routine crime prevention duties saw two men carrying a heavy bag on Wednesday, Captain Xoli Mbele said.

They were searched and the bomb disposal unit was called. Further details were not immediately available.

The men would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
