Pietermaritzburg - Two people were killed in an early morning collision on the N3 near New England Road, in Pietermaritzburg, on Monday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said a car travelling south veered across the grassed median and collided with another car going in the opposite direction.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the roadway to be littered with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles. Two people were found trapped in the twisted metal,” he said.

“When they were examined it was found that a man and a woman died on impact. A 15-year-old boy from the same vehicle was found to have sustained serious injuries."

The driver of the other vehicle, a larger VW Caravelle, escaped uninjured.

Medics stabilised the seriously injured boy at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital.
