Johannesburg - Two people were killed and another injured when three trucks collided and two of them burst into flames on the N12 in Springs, east of Johannesburg on Thursday, paramedics said.

When paramedics arrived on the scene they found a small truck parked on the side of the highway and two large trucks lying in the middle of the road, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

The two large trucks were on fire.

"Paramedics found the lifeless body of a man lying a few metres away from the truck. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his multiple burn wounds," said Meiring.

Two other people were found on the scene. One of them was in a serious condition and died of his wounds shortly afterwards.

Meiring said they had been pulled from the trucks by eyewitnesses.

The injured survivor was taken to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the small truck was not on the scene.
