Two men were shot multiple times in unexplained circumstances as they were sitting in their car in Alberton in Ekhurhuleni on Tuesday afternoon. 

Varying reports by Alberton Record and The Star state that multiple shots were fired, up to 17, according to the latter's count. 

According to ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell, paramedics were summoned to the scene in Kritzinger Road, Alberton North, at around 14:00. 

"The two men, one estimated to be in his 30s and the other in his 40s, were found showing no signs of life and having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. They were declared dead on arrival," Campbell said.

"They seemed to have at least been shot 17 times and the shooter shot directly into the vehicle.The exact circumstances surrounding this incident are unknown to ER24," he said.

"The South African Police Service, as well as the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, were on scene to cordon off the area and investigate further."

Police could not be reached for comment.
