Cape Town - The two men who murdered a Hlabisa man during a house robbery three years ago were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mthunzini High Court this week, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Mfundo Manyanga, aged 27, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Muziwethu Gazu, 40, and 15 years for robbery, Major Thulani Zwane said in a statement on Friday.

His co-accused, Sizwe Gazu, aged 29, received a life sentence for the murder and 20 years for robbery.

Gazu was found with his throat slit on 26 October 2013. His cellphone, cash, and other items had been stolen from him.

The two were arrested in Hluhluwe less than a month later. The knife used to kill Gazu was found in their possession.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police for their investigation, which led to the killers' conviction.
