Pretoria – The inter-ministerial committee on elections, led by Co-operative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen, will brief the media on Wednesday on the state of readiness for the 2016 local government elections.

The elections are scheduled to take place on August 3.

This past weekend was last voter registration weekend, but registration is still open at Electoral Commission of South Africa offices.

Van Rooyen condemned the violence reported at some voter registration stations such as Vuwani in the Vhembe District Municipality in Limpopo as well as in Paarl and Wellington in the Western Cape.
