Cape Town – Two vehicles were set alight when two opposing gangs clashed at a funeral in Leonsdale in Cape Town on Saturday morning.

Cape Town Metropolitan Police Department deputy chief, Yolande Faro: said, "It is alleged [that] at a funeral, two opposing gangs came into conflict," she said.

There are unconfirmed reports that a male was shot.

"During the conflict two vehicles were set alight. One minibus taxi and a sedan. Fire services responded to extinguish the fires, however, they were stoned," she said.

Faro said police were unsure if the fire truck was attacked by gangsters or members of the community.

Police were investigating a case of attempted murder and malicious damage to property but no complainants had come forward in the attempted murder allegation.

"Metro police and SAPS are patrolling the area. The situation is quiet but tense," Faro said.
