Video captures attempt to steal vehicle in Durban

Durban – A video has surfaced on social media showing the attempted theft of a motor vehicle on North Coast Road, Durban.

In the video, two men can be seen tactfully walking past nearby vehicles, seemingly assessing their security. The incident is believed to have taken place on December 23.

The men then walk back past a Toyota Corolla, before attempting to break-in.

Speaking to News24 on Thursday, owner of the vehicle, Wesley Rajbansee, said it was not the first time that thieves had attempted to break into a car in the area.

"An attempted theft occurred once before about five months ago to another vehicle in the area. This incident is outside my place of work at Fashion Station. These men actually arrived and escaped in a similar Toyota Corolla."

According to Rajbansee, a colleague had noticed the men and disturbed them, forcing the them to abandon the attempted theft.

"One of our workers noticed what was happening and he ran out. My boss pressed the gate buzzer and it also scared them away. It is very disheartening to see people just try and steal something you work hard for. I will be parking my vehicle on the inside from now on.”

Rajbansee said colleagues at his offices had informed the Metro Police of the crime.
