Mbombela - Mpumalanga villagers have been warned not to set fire to structures as a way of resolving service-delivery problems.

Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Candith Mashego-Dlamini was speaking at the handover of the R3.4m state of the art Tfutfukani Educare Centre in Ntunda village near Malalane.

"Please treat the newly built early child development centre well, as a treasure for the coming generation. As responsible citizens, you must always engage with ward councillors and your municipality to raise your concerns, not to take your anger out on community structures," she said.

Tfutfukani Educare Centre was established in 1997 by local residents to take care of neglected and unsupervised children.

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform developed the centre further through its Rural Infrastructure Development Programme, which started in 2015.

It provides day-care facilities, physical care, improved language education and social and emotional care for the children.

"We are happy that today our kids are learning in a conducive environment. This will improve their moral activities," said centre manager Rose Phelembe.

Resident Ronald Bhiya praised the department for developing the village.

"We are very happy with the progress made in this community. Now we have Apollo lights and JoJo tanks. We still want a community hall so that our youth can be off the streets," said Bhiya.
