East London - The IEC will complete its counting of voter results before the set deadline, Eastern Cape electoral officer Thami Mraji said on Thursday afternoon.

He said all the stations had been counted and that the results of all stations were at its capturing sites.

"Capturing has proceeded to the extent that we have made a lot of progress as the province and the auditing of results," he said.

The status of the results at the current moment in Eastern Cape is 95.9% captured, he said.

Mraji told journalists that 88.4% of the results had been audited. Scanned results were at 90.2% and the overall proposition of the result completed was at 82.1%.

He said 11 municipalities were completed and 10 of those had been won by the ANC, with one municipality going to the DA. Ten municipalities were between 90% and 99% complete.

The highly contested Nelson Mandela Bay Metro stood at 73% votes counted and in the Buffalo City Metro, 61% of voter counts were completed.
