Warder stabbed at PE prison

A prison warder was stabbed by an inmate at the St Albans Correctional Facility in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

According to an incident report News24 has seen, the attack took place around 13:30 as lunch was being served.

The incident report states that the official sustained a 2cm cut above and below the left ear.

"Necessary force was used to disarm the offender," it states.

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed the incident to News24.

"This incident indeed took place and it's under investigation. What was forwarded to you is an incident report and we will request that the names not be disclosed until such time that the investigation has been completed," Nxumalo said.
