Cape Town - The last day of the school term took a bad turn for two boys when one was robbed while walking the streets of Rondevlei, Mitchells Plain, on Friday.

CCTV footage circulating on social media shows the two youngsters making their way down Old Trafford Road when a bakkie with two occupants makes a U-turn and drives back towards them.

The vehicle comes to a stop next to them and a man jumps out. He grabs one of the boys and points what appears to be a gun at him.

A scuffle ensues. The boy hands over his cellphone, which he takes from his pants pocket.

The man jogs back to the car. The boy’s friend has words with the man, who gets back into the bakkie and drives off.

The boys continue on their way. The young victim covers his face with both hands.

The video, posted by Mitchells Plain Gangwatch on Facebook, has been viewed more than 120 000 times.

Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said a case of robbery is being investigated. No arrests have been made.
