Cape Town - A couple spent an entire afternoon at a Cape Town restaurant, racked up a R1300 bill, and left without paying it, one of the owners said on Monday.

Celeste Perry, of the Fat Cactus Cafe in Gardens, said they ordered food and margaritas and spent almost the whole of Saturday at the restaurant.

Perry said the man disappeared first.

"The woman was still speaking to one of the managers at the bar, but he had to attend to an emergency in the kitchen. She then disappeared too."

Perry posted pictures and a video clip of the man and woman on her personal Facebook page on Monday. By 18:00 on Monday evening, it had received more than 50 000 views.

“It’s sad that people still do this. Normally waiters are stuck with their bills after they disappear,” she said.

Perry said she would lay criminal charges on Tuesday.
