Durban - Drama erupted in the streets of Durban on Tuesday afternoon when a knife-wielding man came face to face with the police in what appeared to be a road rage incident at a set of robots.

A passing motorist captured almost two minutes of video as the incident unfolded.

The man was wielding a large knife when he was confronted by a group of police and the Durban Metro who pointed their firearms at him.

It was not immediately clear what the incident was about and where exactly it took place, but vehicles including that of Metro police, SAPS, a blue Isizu bakkie and red Hyundai i20 were involved in the incident.

In the video a Metro policeman is seen pointing a firearm at the man who is carrying a knife.

The man, wearing a blue cap and a jacket, then starts chasing around the Metro police around the Hyundai.

Police wearing bullet proof vests then arrive on the scene and try to apprehend the man pointing firearms at him.

The man is then seen trying to talk to someone who was inside the Isizu before heading to the red Hyundai.

He gets out of the vehicle and appears to be threatening the group of frightened officers.

The police eventually pounce on the man, grabbing the knife out of his hand before forcing him to the ground.

Metro police spokesperson Sbonelo Mchunu was not immediately available to comment on the matter.
