2018-09-19 14:30

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company has captured snow falling near the upper cable station and has posted the video to its social media accounts.

The video, shared on Instagram and on Twitter, showed snowflakes falling on Table Mountain.

The cableway company employees and visitors braved the cold and wet weather to take video clips of the snow.

The South African Weather Service predicted snow over the Western Cape's high mountains and rain showers on Wednesday, bringing with it the hope of a further increase in dam levels.

Snow Report SA predicted that Wednesday would be the last day of snowfall this week.

"Christmas has come early at the #Cableway … it's 2 degrees at the summit of #tablemountain and it's snowing," the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway company wrote in the Instagram post.

Other mountains in the Western Cape also received a bout of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday as temperatures dropped in the province.

Snow feel on the Matroosberg near Ceres, and a total of 7cm to 10cm of snow was expected, according to Snow Report SA.

However, things heat up in other parts of the country and a heatwave persists in the north.

High temperatures persist in Gauteng, the eastern parts of Mpumalanga, and most parts of Limpopo, including the Western Bushveld region in Limpopo until Thursday.
