Learner hits teacher in classroom

2018-03-09 17:27

A video of a learner hitting a teacher in a classroom has emerged on Facebook.

In the video, which was posted on News,Accidents,Robberies&Incidents’ page, a female learner can be seen getting up from her desk with a book in her hand. She then walks to the front of the class where the teacher is standing and hits the teacher with the book.

The humiliated teacher walks away while the other learners laugh. Speaking to DRUM, the Gauteng department of education spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed the incident happened at Three Rivers Secondary School in Sedibeng, Gauteng.

He also stated that the department immediately sent out officials who would investigate the learner’s misconduct after coming across the video on social media.

“We can confirm that the officials from the psycho social support team have already started with the counselling process of all learners and educators this morning,” he told DRUM.

The department has also offered counselling to the affected educator through the employee wellness programme.

After seeing the video the Gauteng MEC of education, Panyaza Lesufi, urged learners to behave accordingly at school.

“We urge all our learners to refrain from acts of misconduct in schools. We implore parents to assist the department in instilling learner discipline in and outside the school environment,” Lesufi concluded.
