A video of an attempted hijacking has emerged on Facebook.

The incident happened on Commissioner street in Jeppestown, Johannesburg.

In the video – which was posted by the News, Accidents, Robberies & Incidents page, a white BMW can be seen parked on the street when a man – wearing a blue jersey and white hat approaches the vehicle and pulls the driver out of the car.

Just as the two men (the driver and hijacker) seem to be quarreling outside the car, another man appears and enters the front seat of the car.

The driver of the car can be seen running away, leaving the two hijackers with the car. The two men later walk away from the scene after struggling to start the vehicle.

According to the caption of the video, when the driver of the car ran away, he had taken the car keys with him.

Speaking to DRUM, Warrant officer MJ Rammala from Jeppe Police Station said that he was not aware of the incident and that it might have been reported while he was not on duty.

While the man was very fortunate to escape the hijacking, Facebook users hailed the man for his quick thinking while others found it absurd that he had not locked his doors in Johannesburg.

Watch the video below:

The statistics show that a total of 8610 cars and 668 trucks were hijacked between 2016 and 2017.
