Students, police and security personnel at the University of KwaZulu-Natal clashed on Tuesday morning, marking another day of violence at two of its campuses.

Students at the Howard and Westville campuses engaged in protest action, with a series of clashes disrupting classes.

Some students reported being removed from classrooms by their fellow students.

"We are trying to work, but there are few groups who do not want anything to happen," said a Howard campus student.

University spokesperson Aston Bodrick said management was engaging with the student leadership "to address concerns raised".

"Risk Management Services and SAPS are present on campus. The information contained herein is correct at the time of dissemination."

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala confirmed the Tuesday morning protest.

"A group of students embarked on protest action at Westville campus. It is alleged that the students were disrupting the lectures and throwing stones. A civilian vehicle was damaged."

Gwala said the situation was stable by midday, Public Order Police at the scene to monitor the situation.
