WATCH: Umhlanga cellphone store robbery video surfaces

2017-05-17 22:10

Durban - A video of two luxury cars allegedly used as getaway vehicles after a cellphone store robbery in Umhlanga on Wednesday morning has surfaced on social media.

It surfaced shortly after a Vodacom store on Zennith Drive was robbed by armed men at about 09:30.

The video shows a group of men jumping in a silver grey Mercedes Benz and immediately speeding off, together with a white Audi which was parked behind it.

A man's voice is heard in the video shouting out the number plate of the Audi.

KZN police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said four unknown men entered the cellphone store and, at gunpoint, robbed the employees of a number of cellphones before they fled.

She said no shots were fired and not even one worker was harmed during the robbery.

"The suspects fled in their two getaway vehicles," she said.

A case of business robbery was opened at Durban North police station, said Gwala adding that no arrests have been made.
