Johannesburg - Water is only expected to return to Randburg and surrounding areas later on Tuesday after a pipe burst, Johannesburg Water said.

"There is a major burst main on the same line that burst last week at Republic [road]. [Our] team is onsite to begin repairs," it said on its Twitter page on Monday evening.

"Due to the depth of the pipe, we estimate that it will take 14 hours for repairs to be completed."

It said it would take a further six hours to charge the mainline after the repairs are completed, while the Linden 1 reservoir and tower were running low.

"It will take the reservoir another four hours to recharge all the affected areas. We estimate that water will be restored by 17:00 tomorrow [Tuesday]."

The effected areas included Robindale, Darrenwood, Ferndale, Linden and Blairgowrie.
