Listen to News24's interview with Penny Sparrow. Sparrow says: "I wasn’t being nasty or rude or horrible, but it’s just that they [black people] make a mess. It is just how they are.”WATCH

Durban - The ANC Youth League has lashed out at realtor Penny Sparrow, saying that they would mobilise the country to stand against her and those of her ilk.

Sparrow had taken to Facebook and described black beachgoers as "monkeys", in an apparent reaction to litter after New Year’s celebrations.

Social media platforms erupted in response, and now her rant holds the national narrative.

The youth league’s head, Collen Maine, said that Sparrow was among many who were unhappy that South Africa was a democracy.

"We have noted that racism is rearing its head as we have seen during the racist #Zumamustfall protests. People bought the old flag and as the Youth League, we will not leave this matter unattended," he said.

"We will mobilise every South African who believes in democracy and we will attend to this woman and many others."

He said that Sparrow’s comments and her membership with the Democratic Alliance were no coincidence.

"We know this [Sparrow’s stance] is what the DA represents. We have noted that the DA will suspend her - they did the same thing with Dianne Kohler-Barnard, so we know it is just a PR exercise. Her suspension for us means nothing," he said.

He also added that they planned to report Sparrow to the SA Human Rights Commission.
