Weather Update: Cold in the south as another cold front moves in, warm in the north

The southern parts of the country are expected to be cold as another cold front makes its way on Wednesday.


Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over most parts of the North West, Gauteng, the northern parts of the Free State, the southern and western Highveld and Lowveld of Mpumalanga and the northwestern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. 


Isolated showers and rain are expected along the south-west coast and adjacent interior of the Western Cape as a cold front moves in.


Minimum temperatures are expected to be cool to cold across the country with very cold conditions across the Highveld and the Great Escarpment.

The coldest place will be Sutherland in the Northern Cape, dropping to below-freezing -3°C.

Maximium temperatures are expected to remain cool to cold across the southern and western parts of the country as a cold front moves in.

Warmer weather is expected for the northern parts of the country, including the northern parts of the Northern Cape, the North West, Gauteng, and the southern parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

Hot weather is predicted for the northern border and the East Coast.

The hottest place is expected to be Skukuza in Mpumalanga, reaching a high of 34°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 29°C, while Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of 27°C, and Bloemfontein a high of 25°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 17°C, while Port Elizabeth is expected to reach a high of 19°C and Durban a high of 27°C.
