Weather Update: Fire warning issued for parts of the Northern Cape as the region heats up

A fire warning has been issued for the eastern parts of the Northern Cape as hot weather conditions have been predicted for the region on Friday.


Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the eastern parts of Northern Cape.


Light rain can be expected over the southern parts of the Western Cape, spreading to the south west coast and adjacent interior.

Isolated afternoon showers and rain can be expected along the coastline and adjacent interior, with isolated showers and thundershowers across the Eastern Cape. Isolated showers can also be expected in the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.


Cool to cold morning conditions can be expected across parts of the country, with declining temperatures along the southern Highveld region, the Lesotho bushveld as well as parts of the Little Karoo in the Western Cape.

Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, dropping to 3°C.

Maximum temperatures remain cool along the coastline. Temperatures are expected to increase across the rest of the country with hot weather predicted for the eastern parts of Limpopo and the eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

Upington and Kimberley in the Northern Cape are expected to be two of the hottest places, with an expected maximum temperature of 34°C.

Pretoria and Bloemfontein will reach a high of 29°C while Johannesburg will reach a high of 28°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth are expected to reach a high of 20°C, Durban is expected to hit a maximum of 26°C.
