Weather update: Heat wave expected in northern parts of SA

Residents in Gauteng, western parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo can expect high temperatures from Monday as a heat wave enters the provinces.

Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Gauteng, North West, Free State, western parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, eastern parts of the Northern Cape and the Central Karoo district of the Western Cape.

Special weather advisories

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in Gauteng, western parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo province until Wednesday.

Temperatures

Minimum temperatures are expected to be warm in Gauteng, Limpopo and KZN and cool in the remainder of the country.

Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, dropping to a freezing 0°C.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be hot along the northern border into the central interior, and KZN.

Warmer weather is expected across the remainder of the country.

A few places in Limpopo are expected to reach a high of 38°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 35°C, while Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of 33°C and Bloemfontein a high of 30°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 17°C, Port Elizabeth 20°C, while Durban is expected to reach a high of 29°C.
